We were contracted by the Niagara Region to install a new pedestrian crosswalk on the busy Highway 20 in Smithville, ensuring safer pedestrian access for the community. This project required careful planning and execution to minimize disruption while improving safety along a high-traffic route.
Our team started by using directional drilling to run conduits under the roadway, reducing the need for large-scale excavation. We then removed the existing sidewalks and poured new concrete sidewalks for a smooth, durable walking path. Concrete bases were poured to support the installation of steel sectional poles, which were securely mounted on the bases to hold the traffic signals.
To ensure proper electrical operation, we installed URD boxes and pulled cable for the new crosswalk signals. Once all infrastructure was in place, we applied line painting on the roadway to clearly define the crosswalk area. Finally, we restored the surrounding area by installing new sod, leaving the site looking clean and fully restored.
This project highlights our ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions that improve public safety, while ensuring minimal disruption to both the environment and daily traffic flow.
